Research activity of membrane&membrane group is focused on preparation of highly selective membrane and on development of membrane-based processes.
Main activities: a) membrane preparation from a wide variety of polymeric and inorganic materials. For polymeric membrane preparation are employed polymers characterized by an elevated chemical and thermal stability (polimeri fluorurati e polisolfoni), while Al, Si, Ti and Zr are used for ceramic membrane preparation. In order to prepare a composite “hybrid” membrane, inorganic particles are introduced into the polymer matrix. b) membrane characterization: morphology and structure, transport properties. Membrane morphology and structure are studied using scanning and transmission electron microscopy and dynamic and static porosimetry. Transport properties are examined by gas and liquid permeability tests as well as retention tests with low molecular mass solutes, macromolecules and colloids. Catalytic membrane activity is evaluated through kinetic studies on reactions in two-phase (gas-solid) or in three-phase (gas-solid-liquid) systems. c) membrane application. The research activity concerns membrane application in the areas of purification, separation and concentration of wastewaters and industrial effluents, with the special attention paied to the food industry, and in the field of catalysis. |
